Primary School

The primary school at ISH nurtures and develops young students as active and caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others. We offer a safe, caring and supportive environment where we can help students to learn and grow and we foster the personal connections that are particularly important for a thriving community. The primary school is open to students aged 3 to 12 and is divided into three sections: Early Years (Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten) Lower Primary (PYP 1-2), and Upper Primary (PYP 3-5).

Through the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) we provide opportunities for students to develop understandings of essential concepts, skills, knowledge and attitudes. We focus on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both within and beyond the classroom. We believe that our PYP curriculum:

  • Develops student’s academic, social, emotional and physical well-being and fosters positive relationships
  • Encourages students to be independent and take ownership of their learning process
  • Reinforces student-initiated action that includes participation, advocacy, social justice, social entrepreneurship, or lifestyle choices
  • Guides our learners to become international-minded citizens
  • Supports student’s curiosity and develops their inquiries

You can read more about the PYP curriculum here

Our specialist subject areas are Music, PHE (Physical Health and Education) and Danish. They complement the homeroom classrooms to help students access a transdisciplinary (multi-subject) curriculum in a balanced, integrated learning environment. You can read more about our specialist subject areas here

Students in the final year of the Primary Years Programme, PYP 5,  carry out the PYP Exhibition, a celebration of learning where students incorporate the essential elements of the PYP and share them with the whole school community.  You can read more about the PYP exhibition here
